computers, you gotta love 'em, but
Yep, yep, yep, I have survived another computer crash! As I related the story to the computer fixer person, he laughed. Here's what happened: I was just trying to get my speakers hooked up and working. I moved over a year and a half ago and have not had any speakers. I finally realized one of the problems--they need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. After plugging them in and re-starting my computer they still did not work. So I followed the prompts. I did two of the three suggestions and on the third it prompted that it would automatically shut down the computer. Just at that exact moment, I find out from the computer fixer person, is when the automatic updates updated, and just one second before the screen comes on telling you to "not shut down your computer" you should not shut down your computer.
Yep, yep, yep, a nasty mess. I lost everything. Pictures, family history, family history pictures, all of my business documents, accounts, and correspondence.
The computer fixer person looked at the damages and luckily he was able to find all of my pictures and documents and he compared it to throwing all of your papers up in the air with a fan blowing. He found it, but it was messy.
Is it just me that has problems with their computers. Seriously, viruses and now this miscalculated automatic shut down is costing me a fortune and making me nuts. Funny thing, I have an external hard drive back up, but who can figure out how to make it work and retrieve from it? (The customer service # connects you to someone in another country who speaks broken English and does not even have a computer. That's more drama for a different day.)
Surely, there must be an easier way. For now, I trust nothing. Everything is backed up on a flash drives, just like I used to back everything up on floppies. Now I have a collection of floppies and flash drives.
P.S. I still have not used the speakers--I can't afford another crash...physically or mentally!!!
